The Line: San Diego Chargers -5 -- Over/Under: 45.5
The San Diego Chargers and the St. Louis Rams face off on Sunday in San Diego in Week 12 NFL action.
The San Diego Chargers are coming off of a home win against the Raiders that ended their three game losing skid and raised their record to 6-4 for the season. The Chargers stared the season strong but they have tailed off but now they are getting healthy and have a chance to make a playoff push. The Chargers offense is averaging 21.8 points and 330.4 yards per game, which ranks them 17th and 22nd in the NFL in those categories. Phillip Rivers has completed 66.8 percent of his passes with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Brandon Oliver leads the Chargers in rushing with 407 yards but Ryan Mathews is healthy once again and Keenan Allen lads San Diego in receptions with 55 and Antonio Gates has nine receiving touchdowns. The Chargers defense ranks sixth in points allowed per game at 19.2 and ninth in yards allowed per game at 331.4 and they are plus one in turnover ratio. Eric Weddle has 68 tackles, Donald Butler has 60 tackles, and Shareece Wright has 42 tackles. The Chargers were a playoff team a year ago and won a playoff game and they look to get back again.
The St. Louis Rams have won two of their last three games and while that makes them just 4-6 for the season the wins came against two of the better teams in the NFL the 49ers and the Broncos. The Rams offense is averaging 18.5 points per game, which ranks 27th in the NFL, and 312.9 yards per game, which ranks them 29th in the NFL. Shaun Hill is back in at QB and he has completed 66.7 percent of his passes with one touchdown and one interception. Tre Mason has been effective rushing the football averaging 4.2 yards per carry and Jared Cook is the Rams top receiver with 34 receptions. The Rams defense allows 25.8 points per game that ranks them 25th in the NFL and they allow 362.4 yards per game that ranks them 17th. Alec Ogletree has 66 tackles, James Laurinaitis has 65 tackles, and T.J. McDonald has 63 tackles. The Rams have a lot of top tier players and are team to watch for next season.
San Diego is 6-2 against the spread following a win, 0-5 against the spread in their last five games, and 0-4 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread. St. Louis is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight road games, 0-4 against the spread following a win, and 0-5 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread.
I see the Chargers winning the game but at this point of the season I am going to take the points as the Rams defense and running game should keep them in it.
