The Line: Chicago Bears -2.5 -- Over/Under: 47
The Chicago Bears and the Jacksonville Jaguars face off on Sunday at Soldier Field in Week 6 NFL football action.
The Chicago Bears are 1-4 this season and they currently sit in last place in the NFC North. The Bears offense is averaging a 30th ranked 17 points and 372.4 yards per game and they are minus 3 in turnover ratio. Brian Hoyer has taken over for the injured Jay Cutler as the Chicago QB and he has completed 71.4 percent of his passes with 6 touchdowns with no interceptions and there will be a QB controversy when Cutler is healthy. Jordan Howard is the top option in the Bears backfield with 296 rushing yards and he also has 12 receptions while Eddie Royal and Zach Miller each have 25 receptions but starting receivers Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White are injured. The Chicago defense is allowing 25.2 points and 346 yards per game with 3 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries and 11 sacks. Jerrell Freeman is the Bears top tackler with 48, Harold Jones-Quartey has 25 tackles, and Willie Young has 4 sacks. The Bears are one of the worst teams in the NFL and should be planning on a high pick in the NFL Draft.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are 1-3 this season and while the hope was for them to be improved, it hasn’t shown up as wins. The Jaguars offense is averaging 21 points and 320.8 yards per game with a minus 2 turnover ratio. Jacksonville QB Blake Bortles has completed 61.3 percent of his passes with 7 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. T.J. Yeldon is the Jags top rusher with 155 yards and a touchdown and he has 18 receptions while Allen Robinson has 21 receptions and 3 touchdowns and Marquise Lee has 16 receptions. The Jaguars defense is allowing 27.8 points and 304.5 yards per game with 3 interceptions, 4 fumble recoveries, and 12 sacks. Paul Posluszny leads the Jags defense with 35 tackles, Telvin Smith has 32 tackles, and Johnathan Cyprien has 31 tackles. The Jaguars turnovers all seem to be in bad spots and cost them points as the points allowed is 25th in the NFL while the yards allowed is 7th best.
Chicago is 1-5 against the spread in their last 6 games, 8-23-1 against the spread in their last 32 home games, and 0-5 against the spread at home against a team with a losing road record. Jacksonville is 1-4-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 6-15-1 against the spread following a win, and 0-3-1 against the spread in their last 4 road games. The home team has covered the point spread in five of the last six meetings of these two teams.
The Jags are coming off of a bye week and the Bears are just banged up but they are home and I have little faith in Jacksonville. This game is looking like a coin flip so going to go for the home team laying less than a field goal in what is a lean at best.
