The Line: Kansas City Chiefs -10 -- Over/Under: 45.5
The San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs meet Sunday afternoon in a AFC clash at Arrowhead Stadium.
The San Diego Chargers simply hope to play spoiler to one of their hated AFC West rivals. Philip Rivers is completing 67.3 percent of his passes for 3,713 yards, 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Rivers has four touchdown passes in his last three games. Danny Woodhead and Stevie Johnson have combined for 1,090 receiving yards and six touchdowns while Malcom Floyd has 23 receptions. The San Diego Chargers ground game is averaging 82.7 yards per contest, and Melvin Gordon leads the way with 565 yards on 155 carries. Defensively, San Diego is allowing 27 points and 370.6 yards per game. Eric Weddle leads the Chargers with 70 tackles, Melvin Ingram has five sacks and Patrick Robinson has seven pass deflections. Stevie Johnson, Brandon Flowers and Dontrelle Inman are questionable.
The Kansas City Chiefs hope to remain in the playoff race with their seventh straight victory. Alex Smith is completing 64.4 percent of his passes for 2,843 yards, 14 touchdowns and three interceptions. Smith has four touchdown passes in his last two games. Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce have combined for 1,598 receiving yards and nine touchdowns while Albert Wilson has 21 receptions. The Kansas City Chiefs ground game is averaging 121.3 yards per contest, and Charcandrick West leads the way with 408 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Kansas City is allowing 20 points and 337.5 yards per game. Derrick Johnson leads the Chiefs with 82 tackles, Justin Houston has 7.5 sacks and Marcus Peters has 18 pass deflections. Allen Bailey, De'Anthony Thomas and Justin Houston are questionable.
The Chargers are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 vs. AFC West and 6-17 ATS in their last 23 games overall. The Chiefs are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The road team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
We all know the Chiefs are the better team, but Rivers usually plays the AFC West tough and has actually beaten Kansas City in four of the last seven meetings. Also, three of the last five games between the Chargers and Chiefs have been decided by just three points. Bottom line, this line is a little out of control.
I'll gladly take 10 free points with the Chargers.
