|Date & Time||Sunday December 27, 2015, 1:00 PM (EST)|
The Line: Detroit Lions -8.5 -- Over/Under: 40.5
The Detroit lions and the San Francisco 49ers face off on Sunday at Ford Field in week 16 NFL action.
The Detroit Lions enter this game at 5-9 and are coming off of a short week after beating the Saints on the road on Monday Night Football. The Lions offense is averaging 21.6 points and 344.8 yards per game and they are minus 10 in turnover ratio. Detroit QB Matthew Stafford has completed 66.1 percent of his passes with 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Ameer Abdullah is the Lions leading rusher with 514 yards and two touchdowns and Golden Tate is the leading receiver with 82 catches and six touchdowns and Calvin Johnson has 72 catches and seven touchdowns. The Lions defense is allowing 25.9 points and 352.1 yards per game with six interceptions, 35 sacks, and 16 fumble recoveries. Stephen Tulloch is Detroit’s leading tackler with 96, Josh Bynes has 75, and Ezekiel Ansah has 13.5 sacks. The Lions have been unable to run the ball this season and their overall inconsistency has them missing the playoffs once again.
The San Francisco 49ers are 4-10 this season and are likely looking at a high position in the next NFL Draft. The 49ers offense is averaging a NFL worst 14.4 points and 291.4 yards per game and they are minus three in turnover ratio. Niners QB Blaine Gabbert has completed 62.4 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and six interceptions. San Francisco has suffered a slew of injuries at running back so this week it look like Travaris Cadet and Kendall Gaskins should get their turn and Anquan Boldin is the top receiver with 59 catches and three touchdowns. The 49ers defense is allowing 24.2 points and 390.3 yards per game with nine interceptions, 26 sacks, and four fumble recoveries. NaVorro Bowman s the Niners top tackler with 136, Michael Wilhite has 85 tackles, and Eric Red and Kenneth Acker each have 63 tackles. The 49ers look like they are just beginning the rebuilding process.
Detroit is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight home games, 5-12 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, and 2-6 against the spread following a win. San Francisco is 5-2 against the spread following a loss, 6-13-1 against the spread in their last 20 games, and 2-6-1 against the spread in their last nine road games. San Francisco is 4-0-1 against the point spread in their last five games against Detroit.
The Lions are a big favorite in this one and they seems to be playing the much better football so I will take them but this is a lean at best.
