The Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins play a Saturday preseason game at Sun Life Stadium.
The Atlanta Falcons are 1-1 in preseason play and are coming off a win over the New York Jets. Matt Ryan should see the bulk of the reps in this matchup, but he already has two touchdown passes on 11 pass attempts. Backups T.J. Yates and Sean Renfree have combined for zero touchdown passes and two interceptions. Jerome Smith has racked up 50 rushing yards and rookie Justin Hardy has 94 receiving yards. Roddy White will miss the rest of the preseason due to minor elbow surgery. Defensively, the Falcons have produced five sacks and allowed 54 points in two games. Joplo Bartu has 14 tackles, Tyler Starr has two tackles for loss and Paul Worrilow has a pass deflection.
The Miami Dolphins are off to an 0-2 preseason start with losses to the Bears and Panthers. Ryan Tannehill, who should get a lot of reps in this game, has been sharp completing 18-22 passes for two touchdowns. Backups Josh Freeman and Matt Moore have combined for two touchdowns and three interceptions. LaMichael James has 58 rushing yards and Matt Hazel has 81 receiving yards and a touchdown. Defensively, the Dolphins have produced three sacks and allowed 58 points in two games. Cedric Thompson has nine tackles, A.J. Francis has two tackles for loss and Mike Hull has a pass deflection.
The Falcons are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games on grass. The Dolphins are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The home team is 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
The Dolphins starters have really shined this preseason. It's been the backups who have screwed everything up. In a game where the starters will play a lot, I like the home team to roll in this one.
