The Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars play Thursday afternoon at EverBank Field in their last preseason game.
The Atlanta Falcons are 1-2 in preseason football and have lost two straight. The Falcons defense has been suspect at best, allowing 56 points in their last two games, which includes 33 second half points. That can’t be a great sign given the fact the backups are going to play this entire game with the starters taking the week off. This game could get ugly quickly if the Falcons players don’t rise to the occasion and pretend they want to make the team. Offensively it shouldn’t make much of a difference for the Atlanta Falcons, as backups Sean Renfree and T.J. Yates have received the bulk of the playing time anyway this preseason. Yates and Renfree have combined for one touchdown pass and two interceptions.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are 1-2 in the preseason and their two losses were both decided by one point. The Jags have actually been pretty impressive in the preseason, especially their defense that has allowed 19 or less points in all three games and has forced seven turnovers. In Jacksonville’s most recent preseason game, they held the Detroit Lions to 4-11 on third down and 1-3 on red zone trips, while forcing three turnovers. With Chad Henne pretty much locking up the starting quarterback job, it’s safe to assume we’ll see rookie Blake Bortles for much of this contest. Bortles has topped 100 passing yards in all three games and has on touchdown pass to zero interceptions. Denard Robinson has led the Jacksonville Jaguars in rushing in two of their three games.
I really like the way these young Jaguars have been playing this preseason, as they could easily be undefeated right now. Look for the Jacksonville Jaguars to get the win at home and cover the small chalk.
