The Line: Kansas City Chiefs +3 -- Over/Under: 47
The Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots face off on Monday Night in Kansas City as they close out week 4 of the 2014 NFL season.
The Kansas City Chiefs finally got their first win of the season in week 3 as they knocked off the Miami Dolphins. The issue for the Chiefs is obvious as last season they had one of the best plus-minus ratios in the NFL but this year they are minus 5. QB Alex Smith has completed 62.7 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and three interceptions and he has rushed for 95 yards. Jamaal Charles has been limited this season and he is questionable for this one but it has been Knile Davis who has carried the load rushing for 214 yards and three touchdowns. Donnie Avery has been the Chiefs leading receiver with 12 catches, Travis Kelce has 10 catches, and Dwayne Bowe has six. Defensively Kansas City has gotten to opposing QB’s for 9 sacks but have no interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Josh Mauga leads K.C. with 19 tackles and Justin Houston has three sacks and Tamba Hali has two but Eric Berry won’t be on the field for this one. The home crowd in Kansas City can be a tough one and they are going to need all the help they can get in this one.
The New England Patriots lead the AFC East but a loss here and they are tied with Miami who already has a win over the Pats. The Patriots are plus 6 in turnovers and that is a good way to win games as they have looked sharps since losing the season opener. Tom Brady hasn’t thrown an interception and he has three touchdown passes completing 58.8 percent of his passes and being sacked seven times. Stevean Ridley still is a poor excuse for a starting NFL running back averaging a paltry 3.4 yards per carry while Shane Vereen averages 4.8 yards per carry. Julian Edelman has been Brady’s favorite target leading the Patriots with 22 receptions and Rob Gronkowski is back with 11 receptions. The New England defense has 6 interceptions, seven sacks, and three fumble recoveries. Jerrod Mayo is healthy again and leading the Patriots with 30 tackles and Chandler Jones and Dont’a Hightower each have 2 sacks. The Patriots are aging and may be running out of chances to get back to the Super Bowl.
Kansas City is 3-7 against the spread against a team with a winning record and 0-6 against the spread in their last six home games. New England is 5-1 against the spread in their last six Monday Night games, 2-7 against the spread in their last nine road games, and 2-6 against the spread following a win. New England has covered the point spread in 6 of their last 8 games against Kansas City.
Points are going to be tough to come by in this one and I like the under with my free pick. My stronger pick is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
