The Los Angeles Chargers and the New England Patriots will match up in NFL Divisional Round Playoffs action on Sunday.

The Chargers come into this game following a regular season that saw the team post a solid 12-4 record. LA won five of their final six games on the slate, then welcomed the Ravens in for the Wild Card Playoffs round last weekend, taking out Baltimore 23-17.

In the victory over the Ravens, Chargers QB Philip Rivers put up 160 yards on 22 pass completions, and Melvin Gordon led the rush on 40 yards and a TD. Mike Williams was the lead Chargers receiver with two grabs for 42 yards.

Over on the Patriots’ side, they’re entering this one after an 11-5 regular season and a first-round bye in the NFL Playoffs this year. The final game of the regular calendar featured New England’s Tom Brady tossing for 250 yards and four TDs in a 38-3 drubbing of the lowly Jets.

New England did manage to lose consecutive games this year—gasp—twice, but when the dust settle it was more of the same: the Patriots stood tall over a bad division and look like contenders for the Super Bowl yet again.

The Chargers are 5-1 ATS in their last six playoff road games and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven in January. LA is 4-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 7-2 ATS in the last nine playoff games.

Meanwhile, the Patriots are 6-1 ATS in their last seven Divisional Playoffs games and 4-1 ATS in the last five in January. New England is 4-1 ATS in the last five on turf and 20-8 ATS in their last 28 after an ATS win.

This matchup has plenty of storylines, not the least of which being that it could be Rivers’ last chance to beat Brady in the playoffs—the success rate there is just about as terrible as you can get.

For the Pats, it’s more of the usual playoff activity they’ve been experiencing for over a decade, and it’s also a chance to show the NFL that the Brady/Bill combination still has something left in the proverbial tank.

Has the Chargers’ talent finally eclipsed the Patriots’ experience? That will be the question here, and with the line at less than a TD I’m not ready to take the crown off the Pats’ heads yet.

Pick:
New England Patriots -4
