The Los Angeles Chargers and the Miami Dolphins face off in a week 4 NFL matchup from Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Chargers will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 27-20 loss to the Houston Texans in their last outing. Philip Rivers has thrown for 944 yards, 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 66.4% passing while Austin Ekeler leads L.A. in rushing with 160 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns and Justin Jackson has 142 rushing yards. Keenan Allen leads the Chargers in receiving with 29 catches for 404 yards and 3 touchdowns while Ekeler has 19 grabs on 20 targets for 208 yards and 2 touchdowns and Mike Williams has 157 receiving yards this season. Thomas Davis leads the Chargers with 33 total tackles, including 19 solo tackles while Joey Bosa has 1.5 sacks this season. As a team, Los Angeles is averaging 408.3 yards of total offense and 20 points per game while allowing 363.7 yards of total defense and 21.3 points per game against this season.
The Miami Dolphins will look to pick up their first win of what’s been a horrendous season so far, falling to 0-3 with a 31-6 loss to Dallas last time out. Josh Rosen threw for 200 yards on 18 of 39 passing while Kenyan Drake leads the Dolphins on the ground with 69 rushing yards. Preston Williams leads the Dolphins with 11 catches and 155 receiving yards and a touchdown while DeVante Parker has 131 receiving yards this season. Jerome Baker leads Miami’s defense with 23 total tackles while Eric Rowe has 17 total tackles including 13 solo tackles. As a team, Miami is averaging 222.3 yards of total offense and 5.3 points per game while allowing 499.3 yards of total defense and 44.3 points per game against this season.
Los Angeles is 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games while the under is 19-8 in their last 27 games against the AFC. Miami is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games following a loss. Los Angeles is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams and 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams in Miami.
The Chargers should rightfully be favored here as they’re the better team and Miami is in shambles right now. However, the Dolphins looked competitive in the first half against Dallas before things fell apart and Miami is showing signs of life. The Chargers are always capable of throwing in a clunker and while I’m not sure the Dolphins win this game outright, I think that this is a case of too many points so I’ll take Miami and the points in this one.
