The Line: New Orleans Saints -4.5 -- Over/Under: 45
The Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints play their final preseason game Thursday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The Baltimore Ravens are 3-0 in preseason play and can become one of only a few teams that is able to run the table. The Ravens offense has been one of the most consistent throughout the preseason, scoring at least 23 points in every game. And while Joe Flacco and the rest of the Ravens starters won’t participate in this game, backup Tyrod Taylor has thrown a touchdown in two of the three games and has turned the ball over only once. The Baltimore Ravens ground game has also averaged a solid five yards per carry in two of their three games. Defensively, the Ravens have allowed 50 points and have forced six turnovers. Rookie C.J. Mosley came away with an interception in his last game.
The New Orleans Saints are also undefeated in preseason action and can only hope their run continues. The Saints have scored at least 23 points in all three games and have done so with quarterback Drew Brees playing in only one of those victories. That’s a good sign when you consider Brees likely won’t be participating in this contest. Luke McCown should see the bulk of the playing time in this game, and he has two touchdown passes and one interception in the first three preseason games. The Saints ground game is also coming off a performance where they averaged 4.6 yards, as Mark Ingram has led New Orleans in rushing all three games. Defensively, the New Orleans Saints have allowed a combined 65 points and forced eight turnovers.
Both teams have looked sharp over the last month and this should be a fairly decent preseason game if both backup units can continue their solid play. However, I feel a lot more confident in Taylor and the Ravens in this spot.
Give me Baltimore and the points.
