The Line: New York Giants -3.5 -- Over/Under: 49
The New York Giants and the Atlanta Falcons face off on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in an NFL matchup of 2-2 teams.
The New York Giants started the season 0-2 and looked to be in trouble but they have bounced back with two convincing wins to get right back into the race in the NFC East. The Giants rank eighth in scoring at 25.8 points per game averaging 351.5 yards Eli Manning seems to be adjusting to the new offense completing 66.9 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. Rashad Jennings is averaging 4.2 yards per carry with two touchdowns and he also has nine receptions. Larry Donnell leads the Giants in receiving with 25 catches and four touchdowns, Rueben Randle has 19 receptions, and Victor Cruz has 18 receptions. The Giants defense is allowing 22.8 points and 355.8 yards per game and has seven interceptions, nine sacks, and three fumble recoveries. Prince Amukamara has 25 tackles and two interceptions, Jacquian Williams has 25 tackles, and Jameel McClain has 24 tackles. The Giants have been playing as well as anyone over the past two weeks.
After the Atlanta Falcons blew out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a few Thursday’s ago the Falcons looked like a team to beat in the NFC but they followed it up with a loss to Vikings where they trailed just about the whole way and were beaten on both sides of the football. The Falcons offense is averaging 32.8 points which is second in the NFL and are averaging 444 yards per game which is he best in football. QB Matt Ryan is having another big year completing 66.4 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. Steven Jackson is carrying the load in the backfield averaging 4.0 yards per carry. Julio Jones is the Falcons leading receiver with 29 catches followed by Roddy White with 14 and Devin Hester and Harry Douglas with 12 catches each. The Atlanta defense is the opposite of the offense allowing a 29th ranked 28.2 points per game and a 31st ranked 429.8 yards. Paul Worrilow has 44 tackles, Dwight Lowery has 23 tackles, and Kroy Bierman has 22 tackles. The Falcons have just three sacks this season and two interceptions for a minus three turnover ratio.
New York s 1-4-1 against the spread following a win by 14 or more points, 23-9-1 in October games, and 0-4 against the spread after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game. Atlanta is 4-1 against the spread against the NFC, 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games, and 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 road games. The road team has covered the point spread in eight of the last 10 meetings of these two.
This seems like a big number but if the Falcons can’t get pressure on Manning they are going to be in trouble and the Falcons playing outside hasn’t been good to them so my play here is on the Giants.
