Like the NFL Draft, Free Agency has become a time when teams lose sight of what players have actually done on the field and where they rate at their position compared to every other player at that position including what might be available in the draft. Ultimately teams reach and others simply miss out on great opportunities, and some moves are just real head scratchers. Here’s a look at a few of the moves I like so far this year.

Darrelle Revis to New England Patriots- It is a win-win for both sides. Revis gets to play for a winner and a defensive coach while the Pats upgrade after losing Aqib Talib and his hideous off the field resume. Revis is expensive, but worth it. We don’t hear Revis’ name a lot because the ball just doesn’t come his way.

Golden Tate to the Detroit Lions-This move has to make Calvin Johnson giddy as he finally gets a real play maker on the opposite side. Take nothing away from Nate Burleson who is a very nice player but Tate is a big upgrade and if he doesn’t at least give Johnson some relief, it will certainly alleviate some of the coverage elsewhere.

Jairus Byrd to the New Orleans Saints-When you air it out like the Saints do, you tend to get it back at you so getting a player like Byrd is simply a home run. Byrd is also the typ of player who makes everyone around him better, he fills a lot of holes.

Captain Munnerlyn to the Minnesota Vikings- Who doesn’t like a guy who simply seems to always be around the ball and that is where Munnerlyn seems to always be. Munnerlyn isn’t a guy everyone knows because he has a name we remember, he’s known because he is in on a ton of plays.

Steve Smith to the Baltimore Ravens-Sure Smith is one of the biggest trash talkers in the game but he shows up on gameday. The Ravens were banged up at receiver last year and they could have used Smith then, look for him to have a monster year.

D’Qwell Jackson to the Indianapolis Colts- Jackson is simply a tackling machine and has been for years. While the Browns are rebuilding, they took a huge step backwards losing Jackson.

DeMarcus Ware to the Denver Broncos-The Broncos have some issues but they are going to be a better defense. Ware won’t need to play every down but look for the Broncos to bring the heat this season.

Karlos Dansby to the Cleveland Browns-The Browns had t do something after losing Jackson and Dansby is a reasonable answer. Dansby makes a lot of tackles and that’s what you want from his position.

Jonathan Dwyer to the Arizona Cardinals-Dwyer is an upgrade for the Card who simply have no luck with running backs. With a defense like they have in Arizona if Dwyer does anything this is a playoff team.

Hakeem Nicks to the Indianapolis Colts-Nicks has been banged up but when he is healthy he is one of the best around. With Reggie Wayne back after missing most of last season the Colts could really be in business.

Ben Tate to the Cleveland Browns-The Browns gave up on Trent Richardson and Tate is a guy many have felt deserves a chance to be a starter. It isn’t a very long term deal so bith sides really get to see what they got.

Louis Delmas to the Miami Dolphins-The Dolphins realize the AFC East is a hitter division and with Delmas they are going to know they can hit back.
