The Cleveland Browns look to build off of a (7-8-1) 2018 season, marking a 5-3 mark since new head coach Freddie Kitchens took over the play calling duties. The offense should improve off as WR Odell Beckham Jr was acquired from the New York Giants to provide extra weapons for the second year signal caller in QB Baker Mayfield. The Browns are hoping the addition of this 3 time pro bowler amassing over 4 1,000 yard seasons will be the difference. The Browns main area to improve will be on defense as they ranked 21st in total defense and ranked 30th in total yards in the 2018 season. The additions of Olivier Vernon, Morgan Burnett and drafting CB Greedy Williams with their first pick in the draft should help to fix some of these problems. Week 1 is where the rubber meets the road as the Browns play the Titans at home.
Week 1 vs Tennessee Titans
The Browns will come out firing in this one as they face the questionable Tennessee Titans. The Titans come into this season with plenty of questions as QB Marcus Mariota has been below average at best, and they simply don’t have the talent to hang with the Browns. Take the Browns in their home opener.
Week 2 at New York Jets
Although the Jets have added a dynamic weapon in running back Leveon Bell, the Browns should be able to put together a few key stops towards the end of the game. This young Jets defense will not be able to slow down Baker Mayfield and his new weapons as the Browns win a high scoring game.
Week 3 vs Los Angeles Rams
This will be the first big test of the season for new Coach Freddie Kitchens and this new look team as the defending NFC champions come to town. Although the Browns have plenty of talent, the Rams might have more. The Rams defense outplays the Browns defense as they are able to string a few more stops together in crunch time.
Week 4 at Baltimore Ravens
With the hype surrounding this Cleveland Browns team everyone has forgotten about the Ravens. The Ravens have improved in the offseason bringing in RB Mark Ingram and drafting Hollywood Brown to go with the league’s number one yards allowed defense in 2018. The Ravens win a slug fest at home.
Week 5 vs San Francisco 4ers
Jimmy Garoppolo and company travel to Cleveland in this week 5 matchup. This will be a great game for the Browns to bounce back and avoid a three game skid as they face the 2nd worst team in 2018. Although the 49ers might have Jimmy G back, the talent on the Browns will prove too much.
Week 6 vs Seattle Seahawks
Seattle will come into this game with some confidence as they are being led by the Super Bowl winning QB Russell Wilson. The problem is that although Russell Wilson works magic, the loss of WR Doug Baldwin hurts here. Seattle and there (4-4) road record in 2018 rear its head in this one. Take Cleveland.
Week 7 Bye
Week 8 at New England Patriots
In Foxborough Coach Bill Belichick and QB Tom Brady are almost unstoppable. I cannot go against the Patriots at home in a meaningful playoff position game. This young Browns team learns just how hard it is to beat the defending Super Bowl Champions.
Week 9 at Denver Broncos
Even though this game is at Denver, this Broncos team is full of question marks. The signing of a below average Joe Flacco does not seem like the long term answer. Denver also has a lack of weapons to surround him, even with the drafting of TE Noah Fant. I see the more talented team win in this one on the road in the Browns.
Week 10 vs Buffalo Bills
The Bills look promising coming into this season returning the 2nd best total yards allowed defense and drafting DT Ed Oliver to add more depth to the already talented defensive line. The problem is that QB Josh Allen has been very inconsistent and I see QB Baker Mayfield outdueling him at home.
Week 11 vs Pittsburgh Steelers
A new look Pittsburgh Steelers will travel to the dog pound to face the Cleveland Browns without weapon Antonio Brown. The Browns almost pulled out a win in the opener against the Steelers, tying due to missed field goals. With the lack of depth of this Steelers defense, I see the Browns offense putting up a ton of points and winning a high scoring game.
Week 12 vs Miami Dolphins
This Dolphins team is in full rebuild mode and do not have the talent on either side of the ball to hang with this team. Take the Browns.
Week 13 at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Browns will come into this game super confident after winning 4 in a row, but little do they forget Big Ben is playing better than he ever has throwing over 5,000 yards last season and having the 4th highest QBR. The Steelers avenge their previous loss on the road and win at home.
Week 14 vs Cincinnati Bengals
The Browns were able to sweep the Cincinnati Bengals last season without new weapon Antonio Brown. Baker Mayfield carves up one of the league’s worst defenses in the first of their two wins over the Bengals on the season.
Week 15 at Arizona Cardinals
Although there is promise with new coach Kliff Kingsbury trying to bring his air raid offense from Texas Tech with number one overall pick Kyler Murray. The Cardinals just do not have the weapons down the field to exploit a below average secondary. Myles Garrett and company get after the rookie quarterback in another win.
Week 16 vs Baltimore Ravens
After seeing the Ravens once already in the season, the Browns will be ready at home in this one. Coach Freddie Kitchens will be able to get Brown or Landry open down the field for a pair of scores in a huge win at home.
Week 17 at Cincinnati Bengals
This will be a repeat of their week 14 matchup. Browns sweep the seasons series.
This line shocks me as the Browns play the below average Jets, 49ers, Broncos, Dolphins, Cardinals, and the Bengals twice. Take the over.
