Yep, the Patriots will be good again. Next team…
Alright, I’ll go into detail on the Patriots here, but New England is one of those teams that is normally considered a Super Bowl or bust team, and 2014 is no different.
Of course the Patriots have Tom Brady under center again, and as long as he is healthy and under center throwing darts, the Pats will be a tough out. The Pats have shown the ability in the past to plug whoever they wanted in the wide receiver role and be successful. Well, once again Brady will be working with a group of what is considered a subpar group of wideouts - all of which should have solid stats considering their quarterback. Gronk of course is the exception to that rule, and if the big guy can stay healthy this season he should once again be a force for opposing defenses to deal with. The line and backfield are solid, but if Brady plays well and gels with this group of wide receivers, the Pats will win often.
Belichick is known for this defenses, and while the Pats have been far from suffocating on this side of the ball the past few seasons (ranking 20th in defensive efficiency last season) the Patriots made some big time changes to their secondary, adding Revis, and with that addition, look for the Pats to directly challenge the Broncos as favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl in 2014.
The Patriots first big test doesn't come until week three when the Pats head to Kansas City to face the Chiefs. The Patriots do have a couple of tricky games, traveling to the Lions, the Packers and the Colts, but the Pats get to host the Broncos in the big showdown in week nine, which is a huge plus.
