The Philadelphia Eagles look to start their preseason schedule with a home win as they welcome the Tampa Bay Bucs to town on Thursday night.
The Buccaneers look to improve on their 6-10 record from a season as they look to Jameis Winston in his second full season in the NFL as the team’s starting quarterback and a sound preseason slate could give he and the team some much needed confidence heading into the regular season. Tampa will also look to a rejuvenated Doug Martin on the ground who had a bounce back season a year ago after a sophomore slump had the skeptics smiling and if the two focal points of their offense combined with a strong campaign from Mike Evans can stay productive than Tampa could surprise some people in the competitive NFC South. Tampa will look to keep the Eagles’ first string offense in check early on and after another tumultuous offseason involving the selection of Carson Wentz at quarterback left Sam Bradford in a stink it’ll be interesting to see what the Eagles do behind center and if they will be focused here in the preseason.
Philadelphia had long been a Super Bowl contender but they are a far cry from those glory days teams of the 2000’s and this could be a long year for them in the NFC East. The Eagles certainly have some weapons on both sides of the ball and they do have the home crowd on their side in this game but I still think they are a ways away from being a team to beat in the NFC this season and while that prognosis could change drastically once the teams hit the field they just don’t seem to be in great shape on paper. The Eagles are three point favourites in this one but even laying a field goal in the preseason isn’t something I’m willing to do with Philly here and to be honest I like the Bucs outright here at a pretty solid price for a younger, more energized team.
