The Line: St. Louis Rams -7.5 -- Over/Under: 39
The San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams square off Sunday at Edward Jones Dome.
The San Francisco 49ers need a big road victory after losing five of their last six games. Colin Kaepernick is completing 61.4 percent of his passes for 1,453 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. Kaepernick has four passing touchdowns in his last three games. Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith have combined for 695 receiving yards and five touchdowns while Vernon Davis has 12 receptions. The San Francisco 49ers ground game is averaging 110.1 yards per contest, and Carlos Hyde leads the way with 470 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, San Francisco is allowing 25.7 points and 406 yards per game. NaVorro Bowman leads the 49ers with 69 tackles, Aaron Lynch has five sacks and Tramaine Brock has three interceptions.
The St. Louis Rams could use this victory to get a game above a .500 record. Nick Foles is completing 58.5 percent of his passes for 1,119 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. Foles has four passing touchdowns in his last three games. Kenny Britt and Jared Cook have combined for 412 receiving yards and one touchdown while Tavon Austin has 20 receptions. The St. Louis Rams ground game is averaging 121.2 yards per contest, and Todd Gurley leads the way with 442 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, St. Louis is allowing 19.8 points and 351.3 yards per game. James Laurinaitis leads the Rams with 45 tackles, Aaron Donald has 4.5 sacks and Janoris Jenkins has six pass deflections. Chris Long, Lance Kendricks and Tre Mason are questionable.
The 49ers are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a S.U. loss and 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Rams are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games in November and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS win. The over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in St. Louis.
This spread is too high for me, as I don't really trust either team. You have no idea which 49ers team is going to show up, and the same can be said for the Rams. I'm looking at the over in this game, as that line is lower than usual NFL over/unders. Yes, both teams are defensive minded, but we're not asking for much here.
Expect both quarterbacks to make a few plays and for the running game to takeover. The final score shouldn't have a problem getting us over this total.
