NFL | Atlanta Falcons (5-9) at New Orleans Saints (6-8)

The New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons face off on Sunday in New Orleans in a NFC South NFL rivalry game.

The New Orleans Saints control their own destiny and if they win out they will not only be in the playoffs but they will be the only team I the NFL South to finish at .500 for the season. The Saints offense is averaging 26 points and 422.6 yards per game and they are led by QB Drew Brees who has completed 70 percent of his passes with 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Mark Ingram leads the New Orleans ground attack with 869 yards and seven touchdowns and Jimmy Graham is the Saints leading receiver with 73 catches and nine touchdowns. The Saints defense has been dreadful allowing 26.7 points and a 31st ranked 390.1 yards per game and they are minus seven in turnover ratio. Curtis Lofton leads the Saints D with 130 tackles, Kenny Vaccaro has 70 tackles, and Junior Galette has 9.0 sacks. The Saints would host a playoff game if they make the post season.

The Atlanta Falcons are 5-9 this season and even though they are in third place in the AFC South they aren’t eliminated from playoff contention. The Falcons are averaging 24.9 points and a seventh best in the NFL 382.9 yards per game led by Matt Ryan who has completed 65.8 percent of his passes with 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Steven Jackson leads Atlanta in rushing with 698 yards and he is playing his best football of the season and Julio Jones is the Falcons leading receiver with 93 catches and six touchdowns. The Flacons defense allows 26.4 points per game and are last in yards allowed per game at 409.9 but they are plus four in turnover margin. Paul Worrilow has 127 tackles, Kemal Ishmael has 87 tackles, and Dwight Lowery has 72 tackles. The Falcons simply haven’t stepped it up against the better teams.

New Orleans is 4-9 against the spread following a win, 0-4 against the spread in their last four home games, and 5-0 against the spread playing on a Sunday following a Monday Night game. Atlanta is 5-1 against the spread against the NFC South, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games, and 4-1 against the spread against the NFC. The home team has covered the point spread in the last six meetings of these two.

This game should be fairly tight as these teams simply do not like one another so with the line more than a field goal I will take the points.

Atlanta Falcons +6.5
