San Francisco 49ers: 2016 Preview, Offseason Recap, Status Report, Schedule, Outlook

The San Francisco 49ers have missed the playoffs back-to-back seasons and hope that bringing in coach Chip Kelly will help turn things around. Overall, the 49ers look like a complete mess, but there’s always a surprise or two each NFL season.

Can the 49ers improve on last years five victories?

Here is your 2016 San Francisco 49ers NFL preview.

Key Player Losses: All of the 49ers key losses this offseason came on the offensive side of the ball with guard Alex Boone and wide receiver Anquan Boldin no longer around. Boldin led the 49ers last season with 789 receiving yards and Boone started 59 games for San Fran since 2009.

Key Player Additions: Besides head coach Chip Kelly? The 49ers only splashy pickup this offseason was offensive guard Zane Beadles. Beadles has 94 starts under his belt and was a Pro Bowl selection back in 2012. Beadles is a big upgrade for the 49ers offensive line and should make life easier for their starting quarterback.

Draft: The 49ers have to rebuild a defense that lost so much talent over the years, and they made a big jump by getting defensive end DeForest Buckner in the first round. Buckner is a freak of an athlete who rushes the passes well and uses his hands to interrupt passing lanes. Joshua Garnett adds even more depth along the offensive line and Will Redmond is a cornerback who would have gone higher if it wasn’t for an ACL injury. Rashard Robinson is also a very big corner who could be a steal if he’s able to keep his head on straight.

Outlook: The 49ers are still in their rebuilding stages after losing many players to retirement, free agency, trades, etc. There’s also the fact a new coaching staff is in play and quarterback Colin Kaepernick hasn’t looked the same since throwing the interception against the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game. If that weren't enough, the 49ers are in the same division with the Seahawks, Cardinals and improved Rams. at best, the 49ers will push for five or six wins. I just don’t see much with this year's squad the way it’s at currently.
