The Line: Pittsburgh Steelers -3 -- Over/Under: 46.5
The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs face off on Sunday at Heinz Field in a NFL battle of AFC playoff hopefuls.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are 9-5 this season and if the season ended today they would be in the playoffs as a wildcard team. The Steelers offense is averaging 27.8 points and a NFL best 424.9 yards per game and they are led by Super Bowl veteran Ben Roethlisberger who has completed 67.2 percent of his passes with 29 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Le’Veon Bell leads Pittsburgh in rushing with 1.278 yards and seven touchdowns and he has 76 receptions and three receiving touchdowns and Antonio Brown is the Steelers top receiver with 115 catches and 11 touchdowns. The Steelers defense allows 24.2 points and 356.4 yards per game and they are minus one in turnovers. Lawrence Timmons has 109 tackles, Mike Mitchell has 64 tackles, and William Gay has three interceptions. The Steelers defense has been mediocre but the offense has been good enough that it has been good enough.
The Kansas City Chiefs are 8-6 this season and on the outside looking in at the playoffs but a win here would go a long way towards helping hem get in. The Chiefs offense is averaging 23 points and 323 yards per game and they are led by Alex Smith who has completed 64.9 percent of his passes with 18 touchdowns and six interceptions. Jamaal Charles leads KC in rushing with 950 yards and nine touchdowns and Travis Kelce has 56 catches and Dwayne Bowe has 51 catches. The Chiefs defense allows a fifth best 18.1 points per game and an eighth best 331.8 yards. Josh Mauga has 89 tackles, Ron Parker ahs 85 tackles, and Justin Houston has 17 sacks. The Chiefs put the heat on opposing QB’s and they hope to do that to Roethlisberger here.
Pittsburgh is 6-0 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 6-1 against the spread at home against a team with a winning road record, and 0-5 against the spread after allowing more than 350 yards in their previous game. Kansas City is 4-1 against the spread following a win, 7-2 against the spread against the AFC, and 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 games. The home team is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings of these two.
The Steelers play up against the better teams and facing one here I have to believe they do it again and I give them the nod.
