The Line: New Orleans Saints -3 -- Over/Under: 43.5
The Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints meet Sunday for a preseason game at Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The Houston Texans are 1-1 in preseason action and coming off a loss to the Denver Broncos. Brian Hoyer has thrown 15 passes in two games and has one touchdown, while Ryan Mallett has 18 pass attempts for zero scores. The two continue to battle it out for the starting job, and I expect Tom Savage to see less reps in this contest. Chris Polk has racked up 65 rushing yards and Khari Lee has 51 receiving yards on four receptions. Defensively, the Texans have produced four sacks and have allowed 24 points. Kourtnei Brown has two sacks, Quintin Demps has two pass attempts and Eddie Pleasant has seven tackles.
The New Orleans Saints are 0-2 in preseason action and coming off a loss to the New England Patriots. Drew Brees has completed eight of 10 passes for two touchdowns and should see some solid playing time in this game. Backups Ryan Griffin and Luke McCown have combined for three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Mark Ingram has 33 rushing yards and Brandin Cooks has more than 100 receiving yards and a touchdown on five receptions. Defensively, the Saints have produced sacks zero and have allowed 56 points. Jerry Franklin has eight tackles, Hau'oli Kikaha has two tackles for loss and Kyle Wilson has two pass deflections.
The Texans are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Saints are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
The Texans still have a quarterback battle going on, which usually brings the best out of guys and helps put points on the board. The Saints are a team that's going to protect their stars and aren't exactly concerned with winning. Give me the free field goal.
