Top Ten Longest Tenured NFL Head Coaches in 2014

As the Super Bowl approaches, you can bet that we’ll be covering all kinds of XLIX related top tens, but today, we’re taking a look at the longest tenured head coaches in the NFL. Take a guess who leads-off.

1. New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been with his team for 15 seasons and will be appearing in his 6th Super Bowl on February 1. Belichick (and his hoodies) will be staying with the club in 2015, as if there was any doubt.

2. Marvin Lewis, head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals, has racked-up 12 seasons at the helm of his club. Somehow. Even with another one-and-done postseason run under his belt, Lewis will return in 2015.

3. Tom Coughlin has been the head coach of the New York Giants for 11 seasons. Despite a rough couple of years, Coughlin will maintain his post for the 2015 season.

4. Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has served for 9 years at his position. McCarthy, who led his team to the NFC Championship this year and who has won a Super Bowl during his tenure, will remain in Wisconsin next season.

5. Mike Tomlin, at age 42, has already served as the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach for 8 seasons. Tomlin and Big Ben will try to lead the franchise to another Super Bowl win again next year.

(5*) 6. Sean Payton has been the head coach of the New Orleans Saints for a total of 8 seasons (2006-2011, 2013, and 2014). Payton will return in 2015 to try to fix everything that went wrong in 2014…and there was a lot that went wrong.

7. John Harbaugh has spent 7 years as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. Harbaugh will stay with the Ravens next year.

(7*) 8. Mike Smith served as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons for 7 seasons. Smith was fired following the 2014 year and has not yet found another position.

9. Rex Ryan was the New York Jets head coach for 6 years. Ryan was let go on Black Monday and has already been hired as the new head coach of the Buffalo Bills.

10. Pete Carroll, head coach of the Super Bowl XLIX bound Seattle Seahawks, has spent 5 seasons with the team. They’re on their way to their 2nd Super Bowl in that time.

(10*) 11. Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has been at the helm of his team for 5 years. After the best December of Tony Romo’s career, the ‘Boys lost to the Green Bay Packers in 2014’s divisional playoff round.

On July 1, 2008 I typed into Google "How Do I start A Blog" and I started my first website called "Miami Mitch's Place" where i shared my college football Picks and predictions as well as opinion. By the Fall I had heard from many that the title made it sound like the site was about Miami so I changed it to "College Football Place" (, After the 2008 college football season I change focus and launched, it wasn't long after that when I realized I just wanted one place to add all sports, and that's when Sports Chat Place was born.

This site is a big Thank You to all of our readers, visitors, and community where we have been given a platform to talk to the masses about sports and hopefully help put you on some winners. If you need to reach me just shoot an email to [email protected]
