NFL | Where Can You Find the Best Vegan Food Around the NFL?

The arrival of spring (at long last) has made me crave fresh fruit and veggies like crazy. When I was thinking about today’s topic, it occurred to me that vegetarians must have a heck of time when they visit NFL stadiums. “Barbeque this” and “oven-roasted that” doesn’t exactly make for vegan-friendly fare. So, I decided to do a little research and break down the top ten most vegetarian friendly stadiums around the league. This info isn’t just for the herbivores in your crew; some of these options are simply healthier than standard game day eats. Remember, y’all, swimsuit bodies start during football season…

1. Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, has a huge array of food options for people who aren’t interested in eating meat. Among the menu choices are black bean burgers, garden burgers, veggie tacos, breaded eggplant hoagies, and plates of fresh fruit. Even PETA agrees that Philly has the market on vegan delicacies cornered on game days.

2. Seattle is a fairly progressive, “green” city, so it isn’t really a shock that the Seattle Seahawks keep their vegan fans happy with a veritable smorgasbord of choices at CenturyLink Field. The concession stands are filled with foods like pad thai, edamame wow bao, roasted vegetable hummus, truffle and herb fries, and veggie Asian tacos.

3. I don’t know about you, but when I think of Detroit, “vegan friendly” isn’t the first phrase that comes to mind. I realized how wrong I was, though, when I looked at Ford Field’s menu options. Vegetarian Lions fans (there’s a carnivore joke in there somewhere) can choose from veggie burgers, veggie chopped salads, Sloppy Janes (vegan friendly versions of Sloppy Joes), garlic parmesan fries, and fruit cups sprinkled with chili lime salt.

4. No surprise that two California stadiums are in my top five on this particular list. We’ll start with Oakland’s Coliseum. Health conscious Raiders loyalists can enjoy veggie burritos, Southwest tortilla salads, hummus/spinach/artichoke dip, salsa, veggie fajitas, and vegan chocolate fondue. Yes, you read that right. Vegan. Chocolate. Fondue.

5. Remaining on the sunny left coast, we’ll move south to the San Diego Chargers’ Qualcomm Stadium. SoCal-based fans can nosh on roasted veggie wraps, three-grain veggie burgers, Portabella Carpaccio, pinto bean nachos, “Farm Stand” nachos, veggie pizzas, hummus, and sliced fresh fruit while they watch Philip Rivers and the boys do their thing on the field.

6. The Colts’ Lucas Oil Stadium may be located in the heartland, but it ain’t all meat and potatoes in the concession areas. Fans who enjoy vegetarian dishes can order grilled veggie burgers, various veggie subs (including the amusingly named “The Combine”), apple and jalapeño coleslaw, and those vegan-friendly chocolate chip cookies that became famous during Super Bowl XLVI.

7. If you’re going to be in the Sunshine State, pay a visit to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Everbank Field for some excellent vegetarian munchies. Veggie burritos, veggie burgers, taco salad bowls, cheese quesadillas, zucchini/lettuce/tomato flatbreads, pico de gallo macaroni and cheese, and Sloppy Janes are all options. At least fans can eat well while watching the…lose.

8. Even though Kansas City is famous for barbeque, Arrowhead Stadium has a surprising array of vegan friendly food choices for sale. Chiefs fans can order lentil burgers, traditional veggie burgers, veggie hot dogs, vegan-friendly nachos and fries, frozen lemonade, cole slaw, and even s’mores. Sounds delish.

9. FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins, has quite a variety of vegan friendly foods available. Hummus and pretzel chips, Greek salads, grilled vegetable wraps, fruit and cheese platters, guacamole and fresh chips, vegetarian cheese pizza, and Kosher falafel are all sold on game days. You’re out of luck if you want a simple veggie burger from the general concessions area, though.

10. Jerry World (AKA Cowboys Stadium, AKA AT&T Stadium) has one of the largest numbers of concession stands in the entire league. Thus, there are plenty of vegan options to choose from. Once vegan fans work through allllll of the meat options (this is in Texas, people), they’ll find that vegetarian nachos, whole fruit and vegetables, spicy black bean vegan burgers, and vegan macaroni and cheese are all available.
