The Flames look to hand the Ducks their first loss of the playoffs as the series shifts to Calgary for the next two contests.
The Anaheim Ducks weren't a trendy pick to win the Stanley Cup at the start of the playoffs as a number of people had them losing in the Conference finals at best and a smaller group including myself having them out in the first round but they have yet to lose a playoff game so far going a perfect 6-0. The Ducks had their struggles defensively this season and many expected that to translate into the playoffs but they have been stellar in their own zone and are coming off a shutout win in game two that could parlay into a massive series lead with a win here. Frederik Andersen has answered the call and unless he slips up in a big way we won't expect to see John Gibson and with Andersen going up against Karri Ramo in this one we have to give a slight edge to the visitors between the pipes.
The Flames have had a very successful season and just getting to the playoffs is a massive step in the right direction for this franchise but you can bet they won't be satisfied with a single playoff series victory and they will be out for blood in this one. Calgary was able to handle the Canucks with relative ease but the Ducks are a completely different animal as they're much deeper and have a ton of role players who are contributing at the moment and it is teams like this that end up winning championships in the NHL. However, the Ducks struggled at times on the road against he Jets and the Saddledome is a very tough place to play for any team and while I think Anaheim can wrap this series up in five games I do see Calgary getting one at home and I think we see it here.
