The Ducks look to continue their winning ways as they return home to face off against a Coyotes side coming off a loss against the Blackhawks last night.
The Arizona Coyotes managed to take a point off the defending champions but lost a bit of ground in the race in the Pacific division as the Coyotes now sit in fourth place and trail the Ducks by a single point. Arizona is still three games above the .500 mark but have played two more contests than Anaheim which gives the home side a great chance to extend their lead and capitalize on having some wiggle room in the standings. Arizona looked to be this year’s version of the Calgary Flames as a group of youngsters overachieving and possibly making the playoffs but their bid may come up short if they can’t hold on to the third seed as the likelihood of a Pacific squad getting a wild card berth is very slim. Anders Lindback should get the call in the crease for Arizona while the Ducks will counter with Frederik Andersen.
The Ducks are coming off a huge victory over the LA Kings at the Staples Center last night and return home currently holding down a playoff spot, which at the end of October and into November seemed like an afterthought for a group that was expected to do some real damage this season. Anaheim has finally put it together and a large part of that has to do with the success of John Gibson between the pipes as he has been brilliant since taking over as the team’s starter and really gives them a 1-2 punch in situations like these where they are playing division rivals in back to back nights. The Ducks return home with a ton of momentum and while Arizona played well against the Hawks last night I think they will be out of gas for Anaheim in this one.
