The Buffalo Sabres finish off their California road trip as they head into the Honda Center to face off against the Anaheim Ducks.
The Sabres look to snap out of their losing ways as they are 1-5 in their last six games overall and endure yet another grueling road game against the Anaheim Ducks who will be looking for a big effort at home in pursuit of a playoff spot. Buffalo has had glimpses of brilliance this season but look as though they are still a season or two away from really contending in the Atlantic division and with the season winding down I think it is safe to say they will fall short of their goal for this season and focus on the draft in July. Buffalo should get another decent draft pick to add to their already growing crop of budding youngsters and with Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart leading the charge this should be an exciting group to watch for the foreseeable future. Anders Nilsson is expected to get the start for the Sabres as he will face off against Jonathan Bernier for the Ducks.
Anaheim meanwhile is hoping to move closer to securing their berth in the NHL playoffs and while it looks more like a formality at this rate they would love to clinch a top three seed in the Pacific division and avoid a first round matchup as a wild card team. Anaheim has battled inconsistency this season and have looked like world beaters on one night and a lottery team the next but for the most part this is a pretty deep team that can lock you down and hang five goals on you without blinking and if they can put it all together at the right time they could very well go on a run in the Western Conference.
The Sabres are 1-5 in their last six overall and 1-5 in their last six against the Western Conference while the Ducks are 4-1 in their last five and 6-1 in their last seven home games. The Sabres are in trouble here as they continue their road trip and with this carrying significant meaning for Anaheim I expect them to show up.
