|Date & Time||Thursday April 30, 2015, 10:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Anaheim Ducks -172 / Calgary Flames +158 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Anaheim Ducks play host to the Calgary Flames in the semifinals of the Western Conference.
The Calgary Flames advanced to the Western Conference semifinals as they ousted Vancouver in six games. The Flames rallied from a 3-0 deficit with a four goal explosion to avoid a game number seven. The team was one of the best in the league when playing from behind late with ten wins when trailing heading to the third period. Although Vancouver put up a fight, second round opponent Anaheim has been a nightmare with 20 consecutive wins at the Honda Center in this match up. If the Flames are to change this trend then their top line of Sean Monahan, Jiri Hudler and Johnny Gaudreau will need to keep scoring as this trio scored seven goals against Vancover while Jonas Hiller posted a 1.84 GAA and .942 save % in five games versus Vancouver.
The Anaheim Ducks were the best team in the Western Conference and secured the home ice advantage. Normally most teams would love to have the home ice but it’s not viewed as a do or die situation. However it might have some bearing on the series with Calgary where the Ducks have beaten the Flames 20 straight times at the Honda Center which is an incredible feat. Anaheim was also tough to keep down when facing a deficit going in to the third with an NHL high 13 comeback victories while also doing it three times against first round foe Winnipeg who many thought would upset the Western Conference leaders. Corey Perry paced the Ducks offense against the Jets with three goals and four helpers while line mate Ryan Getzlaff recorded four points. Frederik Andersen was stellar between the pipes verus the Jets with a 2.20 GAA and .924 save%.
The under is 4-0 in Flames last 4 Thursday games and the over is 4-0-1 in Flames last 5 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game while the under is 5-1-1 in Flames last 7 games following a win. The Ducks are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. a team with a winning record and are 4-0 in their last 4 Thursday games while going 6-1 in their last 7 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Flames are 2-26-3 in the last 31 meetings in Anaheim and the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the home The team is 41-11-1 in the last 53 meetings. This is a tricky one with Anaheim playing an incedible amount of close games so I might look at doing something in the first period...
