The Avalanche look to keep plugging away at a potential wild card spot as they head into Anaheim to face off against the Pacific leading Ducks.
The Avalanche have won three games in a row and 8 of their last 10 including in the desert last night against the Coyotes and now they can pull to within five points of the Jets for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. Colorado has had a bit of a disappointing season on the whole but are certainly making up for it right now and if they can continue their winning ways and take down some of the game's best teams in the process they could very well make things interesting in the final weeks of the season and jump into the mix with the handful of other teams there. Semyon Varlamov will likely get the call again as he will gp up against Frederik Andersen.
The Ducks meanwhile have had the division wrapped up since Christmas and have been coasting through the Pacific but they don't want to head into the playoffs with any bad habits and sometimes teams can get burned doing so when they have a comfortable lead in the final week of the regular season. Anaheim has been the best team in hockey over the last two seasons but they don't have much to show for it in terms of hardware and while they could land the President's Trophy this season you can be sure they have their sights set on a different trophy. However, the Avs are in desperation mode right now and I don't see the Ducks over exerting themselves and I think Colorado is more than worth a look here as a road dog.
