The Ducks look to get back in the win column and inch closer to wrapping up the top seed in the West as they welcome the Stars to Anaheim on Wednesday.
The Stars have won two in a row and seven of their last 10 overall heading into Anaheim on Wednesday night and while it is nice to see them finishing the season on a high note they have been a major disappointment this season. Dallas was expected to be a playoff team at the very least this season and many had them finishing at or near the top of the Western Conference but as it stands right now they are eight points out of a playoff spot and have given up way too many goals to even be considered a plyoff team and now they will have to go back to the drawing board in the offseason and perhaps address their issues on the blue line. Kari Lehtonen is a year removed from one of his best seasons as a pro but this is certainly not one to remember as the team is fourth worst in the league with 259 goals allowed. Lehtonenwill get the start as he will go up against Frederik Andersen.
The Ducks meanwhile have been as consistent as they come this season and while they have proven time and time again they are in the mix as a Cup favourite they weren't able to close out the season and win the President's Trophy – something that was considered a foregone conclusion in mid-January. Anaheim is four lines deep and can beat you in a number of different ways but the big question mark for them is can they do enough defensively to make it out of the Western Conference? They are a surprising +13 in goal differential this season which is second worst among current Western Conference playoff teams and easily the worst mark of any division leader which indicates they have played a ton of close games or in the games they have lost they have been throttled. Either way that is something to consider come playoff time and until they get there you have to think they'll want to go in on a positive note and a home win against Dallas should do the trick.
