The Ducks look for their third win in a row and 38th overall on Monday night as they host the Detroit Red Wings at the Honda Center.
The Red Wings are coming off a 7-6 victory against the Dallas Stars on Saturday and while it is impressive they were able to put up seven goals on the road against a team competing for a playoff spot it has to be a bit concerning that they were forced into scoring that many to get the win. The Wings have long been known to have a solid team defensively and their goaltending has always been a part of a system that doesn't force them into stealing games but Jimmy Howard didn't have his best stuff against the Stars and he'll look to get it back here against Anaheim. The Wings are in the mix atop the Atlantic division and are battling with the Lightning and Canadiens for the crown and top seed heading into the playoffs and while Detroit would be confident against whoever they played I'm sure matching up against a wild card team from the Metro would be in their favour a lot more than having to play one of Tampa or Montreal in the first round. The Wings will have to battle John Gibson tonight as they look for their third straight win.
The Ducks have rebounded after a two game slide and have won those games back over the weekend and now that they have re-established their dominance in the Pacific they have their sights set on the league crown and top seed in the playoffs. Anaheim has been solid from the start this season and are six points back of the Preds for the top seed in the West and league standings but with how dominant the Central has been this season Anaheim may favour match8ing up against a team in their own division as they have had so much success there this season and if things work out for them they could see the overachieving Flames in the first round which to them would be a dream matchup. This should be a very exciting contest between two playoff bound teams and while I do think the Ducks get the win it'll be closer than people think and I like this one to stay under the number as Howard rebounds from a shaky outing.
