The Line: Anaheim Ducks / Los Angeles Kings --- Over/Under:
The Los Angeles Kings visit the Honda Center to take the ice with the Anaheim Ducks in a Sunday night NHL hockey match up.
The Los Angeles Kings are heading nowhere which is something of a surprise although the team seems to be a bit down the past few years. The Kings are still trying to win hockey games and not simply going through the motions and getting ready for the offseason. The LAK defeated the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in overtime on Saturday, leaving a bout with the rival Anaheim Ducks left to close the regular season on Sunday. Drew Doughty tallied the game winner just 27 seconds in to the extra session with Tyler Toffoli and Dustin Brown scoring in regulation with the latter lighting the lamp with 55 seconds remaining. Jonathan Quick won it for Los Angeles with a 25 stop effort. Jonathan Toews and Artemi Panarin scored for the Blackhawks with Corey Crawford logging 23 saves in the loss.
This time of the year in the NHL has many teams already in the postseason or jockeying for position while just as many are battling to get in with a last ditch push. The Anaheim Ducks are heading to the postseason with their 5th consecutive Pacific Division crown in tow but locking up home ice advantage in the first round was the ultimate goal. The Ducks head to the final game of the regular season versus the Los Angeles Kings following a 4-0 win versus the visiting Chicago Blackhawks who are playing out the string and resting players. Anaheim received goals from Richard Rakell, Corey Perry, Ryan Kesler and Chris Wagner. John Gibson gave the Ducks a monster 37 stops to get the win while his counterpart in goal, Corey Crawford absorbing the loss with 22 stops
The Kings are 1-10 in their last 11 Sunday games and the under is 8-1-4 in Kings last 13 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 while the under is 19-3-4 in Kings last 26 in the third game of a 3-in-4 days situation. The under is 7-1-5 in Ducks last 13 games playing on 2 days rest and the Ducks are 8-2 in their last 10 overall while the under is 4-1 in Ducks last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. The under is 3-0-3 in the last 6 meetings and the over is 5-1-3 in the last 9 meetings in Anaheim while the Kings are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings in Anaheim.
I’m looking at the Ducks who might need the win to capture the Pacific but there isn’t much at stake…
