The Ducks look to shake off a rare home loss as they welcome the Philadelphia Flyers to the Honda Centre on Thursday.
The Flyers have been a tale of two teams this season as they started out slow once again but have since turned a corner and sit in a playoff spot at the moment. Philly has the roster to make a playoff push as we saw from them a couple seasons back but for some reason they haven’t been the force many expected they would be over the last year and a half and that has to be frustrating for everyone involved with the organization. The Flyers will look to leapfrog the Rangers for second spot in the division with a win here but they know they’ll be in tough as Anaheim has been a force all season long and are coming off a tough 4-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night. Steve Mason is expected to get the call for the Flyers as he goes up against Jonas Hiller for the Ducks.
Anaheim continues to be the class of the NHL as they have a six point cushion on the Blues for top spot in the conference and the league and with the season approaching the two thirds mark they are well on their way to a playoff berth. The Ducks have ridden the strong play of their top line that includes Olympic teammates Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry with the former ranking in the top five in league scoring and the latter a former Hart Trophy winner. The Ducks have been spectacular but when I look at their roster I still find it unfathomable they have done so much as to me they’re a bit thin beyond their top six and while their blue line and goaltending have been strong I still think there are better units out there. Nonetheless the Ducks look for an impressive 40th win of the season tonight and while I am not willing to lay the juice as I think the Flyers continue to get disrespected I do think we see some goals here as both teams can light the lamp.
