The Sharks look to extend their impressive winning streak to six games on Monday in a show down against the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center.
The San Jose Sharks have always been known as a streaky team and while that can come back to haunt them at times like it did in the postseason last year, it can also be a blessing as they are skyrocketing up the Pacific division standings and are now just seven points back of the Ducks for first place. The Sharks lost some pieces from last season but have the majority of their roster still intact which should put them in a nice position to make the playoffs once again but with the Canucks and Kings both playing well and the Flames still lurking around they'll have to continue their strong play and stay consistent from here on out. Antii Niemi is expected to get the nod between the pipes as he will go up against Frederik Andersen in what should be a very exciting contest.
The Ducks are coming off a loss but they always seem to do a great job rebounding in their next game and as such they are 8-2 in their last 10 games and still sit atop the league standings with an impressive 49 points through 35 games. Anaheim made some offseason moves to bolster their lineup namely bringing in Ryan Kesler to lead the second line and it has paid dividends as they are one of the deepest teams in hockey and have the pedigree to make a deep playoff push despite being in the toughest division in the NHL. Anaheim is 10-3-3 at home while the Sharks are 9-7-2 on the road but thanks in large part to San Jose's five game haul and the Ducks coming off a loss we get a very reasonable line to work with and one I expect will take off as we approach puck drop. I love this spot for Anaheim despite San Jose's run as I think the Ducks are the much better team and getting them at this price at home is a gift.
