The San Jose Sharks look to take a commanding 2-0 series lead back home as they face off against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night.
The Sharks stole home ice advantage in a hurry as they took down the Ducks in their Pacific division series opener and with a victory on Saturday they can head back to San Jose with a 2-0 series lead and would set up a chance to complete the sweep on home ice. The Sharks have had an up and down season and have flown under the radar a little bit heading into the playoffs but they are a dangerous team with plenty of playoff experience and know the Ducks well which makes them a very intriguing team in the Western Conference and one that is certainly getting overlooked. San Jose has done a great job against division opponents this season as they are 22-7 in their last 29 meetings and they have won four games in a row in Anaheim and Martin Jones will be tasked with continuing that trend on Saturday evening.
The Ducks meanwhile were one of the league’s hottest teams to finish the season and have been a trendy pick to advance into the Conference finals but they will have to find a way to win games in San Jose in this series as they have already relinquished home ice advantage. Anaheim has a ton of depth across the board and have a lot of playoff experience much like their opponents do but Anaheim hasn’t fared well against the Sharks on home ice lately despite having a ton of success against all other teams at the Honda Center. Anaheim is 20-7 in their last 27 games on home ice and are 5-1 in their last six overall and according to the odds makers they are a slight favourite to even this series with a bounce back effort on Saturday night.
The Sharks are 2-5 in their last seven overall and 7-3 in their last 10 Saturday games while the Ducks are 7-1 in their last eight following a home loss and are 5-1 in their last six against the West. San Jose was perfect in game one but I like Anaheim to even things out here and send this series to the Tank after earning a much needed victory.
