The Anaheim Ducks look to snap out of their 5 game losing streak as they host one of the league’s best in the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Honda Center on Monday night.
The Lightning have asserted themselves as one of the league’s best teams once again this season as they are certainly a contender to win the Stanley Cup and line for line they might very well be the best team in the NHL. The Bolts are loaded across the board and have one of the most dynamic play makers in Nikita Kucherov who is leading the NHL in points and if the rest of the offense led by Steven Stamkos can continue to pile up points they are going to be a very tough team to beat in a playoff series. Tampa Bay also has depth on the back end and one of the game’s best goalies in Andrei Vasilevskiy who is back from the injured reserve and looking like a Vezina candidate once again. Tampa is 4-1 in their last 5 against the Pacific division and have been very strong on the road over the last couple of seasons and with the way Anaheim is playing right now the Bolts should be considered heavy favorites in this spot.
The Ducks have been very inconsistent this season as they looked like a doormat early on before rebounding to look like a playoff contender but over the last couple of weeks they have reverted back to their early season form as losers of 5 games in a row. Anaheim has been decent on home ice and are 5-2 in their last 7 games in Anaheim but they will be in tough here against a very good Tampa Bay side who has gone over the total in their last 5 games against teams from the Western Conference. Anaheim is coming off a drubbing in their last game and in their last 30 in which they have given up 5 or more goals they have won 22 contests so there is something to hang onto if you’re a Ducks backer in this spot.
The Lightning are 4-1 in their last 5 against the Western Conference and 39-14 in their last 53 overall while the Ducks are 7-18 in their last 25 on one day’s rest and have hit the Under in 5 straight against the Atlantic. Tampa Bay is the better team here and there isn’t too much to look into as they get it done and send the Ducks another loss.
