The Ducks look to get back in the win column after a loss in a shootout to the Canucks in their last outing as they return home to face off against the Jets.
The Winnipeg Jets got a big win in San Jose last night and will look to continue their road success with a win in Anaheim against a Ducks team who has underachieved big time this year but is starting to put things together. Winnipeg has had a bit of a tough go this year after making the playoffs a year ago and while they got a big win last night it kept them in last place in the Central division and they are 10 points back of the Hawks for third place and the last automatic berth in the Western Conference playoffs. The Jets look to exact some revenge after getting swept in last year’s postseason to Anaheim and while it will take more than a victory here it is certainly a good place to start. John Gibson is expected to start for the Ducks while Mike Hutchinson will counter for the Jets.
The Ducks were one of the league’s biggest disappointments after the first two months of the season and while they still have a ways to go before they can restore their preseason perception they are certainly starting to piece it together. Anaheim still sits dead last in the league in team offense by a country mile as they have scored just 69 goals in 37 games but their goaltending has been brilliant of late and a big part of that is American net minder John Gibson who has put up ridiculous numbers since being called up. This is going to be a great game as both teams need to get the win but the better play is the total as the Ducks can’t score, their defense has been brilliant, and the Jets are in a back to back.
