The Arizona Coyotes look to shake off a season opening loss against Dallas as they return home to welcome the Anaheim Ducks to the desert on Saturday night.
The Ducks spoiled the welcome party for the San Jose Sharks and Erik Karlsson on opening night and will look to do the same to the Coyotes on Saturday when the two Pacific division foes face off in Glendale. Anaheim comes into the season looking to make a statement in the Western Conference as they have a solid core of players but an aging roster that doesn’t have a ton of time left together and perhaps that has been some early season motivation. The Ducks are led by Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, and Rickard Rakell up front and have one of the best blue lines in the league led by Hampus Lindholm and Cam Fowler but whether that is enough for this team to supplant the likes of the Kings, Sharks, and Knights remains to be seen.
The Coyotes meanwhile are coming off a decent second half of the season last year and were led by the inspiring play of Antii Raanta between the pipes and they did make some moves in the offseason to improve their team but many see them as a doormat in the Western Conference once again. Arizona is hoping the move to send Max Domi to Montreal in exchange for Alex Galchenyuk will pay off and with Dylan Dtrome and defenseman Jakob Chychrun looking to be mainstays as the youngsters on this team the Coyotes could shock a few people this season and compete for a playoff spot late into the season.
The Ducks are 7-1 in their last eight against a team with a losing record and 7-15 in their last 22 Saturday games while the Coyotes are 8-20 in their last 28 Saturday games and 2-8 in their last 10 meetings with the Ducks. Anaheim is riding high after their win against the Sharks and they get it done again here sending the Coyotes into an early two game losing streak.
