The Ducks return from the Christmas break looking to continue where they left off as they head into Arizona to take on the Coyotes.
The Anaheim Ducks took the league lead into the three day Christmas layoff and they can pad their edge with a road victory here against a Coyotes team who is looking to find any sort of consistency in what has been a frustrating season so far. The Ducks are one of the favourites to win the Cup this season and it is clear to see why as they have one of the deepest teams in the league and can adapt their style of play to fit any sort of game plan for or against their opposition. The Ducks will lean on Frederik Andersen once again between the pipes as he has put up some great numbers and he will go up against Mike Smith who was the talk of the league a few seasons ago but have sort of drifted back to anonymity over the last two years. The Ducks are 12-5-2 on the road while the Coyotes are just 5-8-3 at home.
The Coyotes have had a tough go this season against any team that isn't the Edmonton Oilers and fresh off another victory against their Pacific division foes they will look to build on that success at home against the Pacific and NHL leaders. Arizona has a pretty solid back end and Smith has proven he can be the guy between the pipes but the Arizona offense is very weak and doesn't have a go to guy option that can take over a game like so many other teams do. The Coyotes to me aren't even close to a playoff spot and I think there will be some big changes coming to this team in the second half of the season as a rebuild is on the horizon. As for tonight I don't think there is much to look into as the Ducks are simply the better team and I suggest just laying it down and moving on with Anaheim.
