The Anaheim Ducks look for their second win in as many days as they travel to the desert to take on the Arizona Coyotes on Monday night.
The Ducks look to build on their 1-0 shutout win against the LA Kings last night as they take on the lowly Arizona Coyotes in Glendale on Monday as they continue their push for top spot in the Pacific division. The Ducks got off to a slow start and have still battled bouts of inconsistency but they are looking like as good an option to win the division as any other as they are right in the hunt with the Sharks and Oilers and they can make up some ground with a road victory here and jump into second place. Anaheim has found much of their success at home this season though as they are just a game above the .500 mark on the road and have 12 of their 19 losses in regulation away from the Honda Center and if they’re going to make a run in the Western Conference they have to rectify that.
The Coyotes meanwhile are second to last in the Western Conference and are currently 15 points behind the Flames for the final playoff spot and while they aren’t mathematically eliminated it looks as though they have checked out mentally as they gear towards another sale at the trade deadline. Arizona does have some nice young pieces but they are still a ways away from being competitive in the Western Conference as they have to battle some of the league’s best teams on a nightly basis and that continues in this spot against a Ducks side playing in a back to back but is playing with some confidence. Mike Smith is expected to get the start in goal as he will face off against John Gibson.
The Ducks are winless in their last five games when playing in the back end of a double header and are 2-5 in their last seven overall while the Coyotes are 1-4 in their last five home games and 2-9 in their last 11 Monday games. Anaheim got back in the win column last night and I expect that continue here as they match up well against Arizona and should have no issues getting the win.
