Saturday night NHL action features the Anaheim Ducks traveling to Gila River Arena to battle the Arizona Coyotes.
The Anaheim Ducks have obviously turned things around from early in the season where it was difficult to win because of health issues. Anaheim has won six of eight and four in a row following a 2-0 victory versus the visiting Dallas Stars. The defense first Ducks have now posted back to back shutouts.
Hampus Lindholm gave Anaheim a 1-0 lead at the 13:15 mark of the opening period before Ryan Getzlaf upped the lead to 2-0 with a shorthanded tally at 4:28 of the third period. Getzlaf also added an assist and Ryan Miller picked up his third shutout of the year while Ben Bishop recorded 15 saves for the Stars.
The Arizona Coyotes are well out of the postseason picture but to their credit the team has not packed it in. Arizona had won four straight before the good times ended in a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Calgary on Thursday. The Coyotes received goals from Derek Stepan and Kevin Connauton with Antti Raanta getting the loss with 33 stops on 38 shots.
The balanced Flames offense featured five different players scoring with Sam Bennett, Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan Mark Jankowski and Matthew Tkachuk all lighting the lamp. Gudreau, Dougie Hamilton and Mark Giordano gave Calgary two assists each while John Gillies earned the victory with 35 saves.
Under is 4-0 in Ducks last 4 road games and Ducks are 4-0 in their last 4 overall and under is 4-0 in Ducks last 4 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game. Coyotes are 4-0 in their last 4 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 4-0 in Coyotes last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 5-1 in Coyotes last 6 games playing on 1 days rest. Ducks are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings and home team is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and over is 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings.
I don’t see this as a slam dunk favoring Anaheim but for now I’m looking at the Ducks…
