The Flames look to hand the Coyotes another home loss and get back into the playoff hunt with a victory on Thursday night.
The Calgary Flames will look to steal a road win in the desert on Thursday night as they look to jkump past the Canucks in the Pacific division and back into a playoff position but they know the Coyotes will be up to the task as they trail the Flames by 11 points and feel their season slipping away. Calgary has been one of the bigger overachievers this season but much like we saw out of the Colorado Avalanche last season they can ride that momentum all the way to the playoffs and while they won't win the division like the Avs did I think Calgary has the potential to slip into the postseason. The Flames have a nice young core with plenty of supporting cast members and a productive blue line that could see captain Mark Giordano claim the league's top defenseman award. The Flames will turn to Joni Ortio here as he will go up against Mike Smith who has reclaimed the starter's role full time with Devan Dubnyk traded to Minnesota.
The Coyotes have had a tough go this season and now they have shipped one of their bright spots out of town for a third rounder as backup turned semi-permanent starter Devan Dubnyk has been sent to Minnesota. The move made it clear that Arizona is going to move forward with Mike Smith as the team's starting goaltender and acquiring a third round pick for a backup is a pretty decent return and there will certainly be more on the way as the Coyotes are in the market for a top end draft pick and with the way things have gone this season they should find themselves in the top five in July’s draft. Arizona has stumbled to a 16-22-4 record and are two games under .500 while the Flames are two above the mark on the road and while it would have been nice to grab the Flames at plus money this is as good as it gets as we have them at a pick em. Take Calgary here and hammer the total as well as I think this game sees plenty of offense.
