Saturday night NHL action features a matchup between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Arizona Coyotes.

The Carolina Hurricanes take the ice for their second straight road game with a visit to the Arizona Coyotes. Carolina has been slumping with losses in five of six after Thursday night’s 5-3 defeat at the Colorado Avalanche.

Colorado scored twice in the first and three times in the second before the defense took over in the third. The balanced Avalanche attack featured scoring from Patrik  Nemth, Carl Soderberg, Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Rantenen and Blake Comeau. Nathan MacKinnon supplied a pair of helpers and Avs goalie Semyon Varlamov saved the day win amazing 57 stops.

The Hurricanes attack featured goals off the sticks of Elias Lindholm, Victor Rask and Derek Ryan but the offense couldn’t rally in the final 20 minutes despite a 22 shot barrage. Cam Ward absorbed the loss for Carolina with all five goals allowed on 27 shots.

The Arizona Coyotes are on home ice for the second consecutive game when the Carolina Hurricanes visit on Saturday. Arizona is still searching for their 2nd win of 2017-18  following a 5-4 defeat to the visiting Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night.

The Coyotes scored first on Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s opening period goal but Buffalo responded with five unanswered goals beginning with Kyle Okposo’s first period tally with one second left.  Benoit Pouliot led the Sabres attack with two goals with Evander Kane and Seth Griffith also scoring. Ryan O’Reilly added three assists and Robin Lehner stopped 25 shots in the win.

Zac Rinaldo, Nick Cousins and Christian Dvorak scored for the Coyotes scored in the third but the late rally ran out of time. Antti Ranta fell to 0-2-1 with all five goals given up on 31 shots.

Hurricanes are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. Western Conference and Hurricanes are 1-6 in their last 7 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game and over is 5-1 in Hurricanes last 6 overall. Coyotes are 0-7 in their last 7 home games and over is 5-0 in Coyotes last 5 vs. Metropolitan and over is 7-0-1 in Coyotes last 8 games playing on 1 days rest. Hurricanes are 6-0 in the last 6 meetings in Arizona and Hurricanes are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings and road team is 10-2 in the last 12 meetings.

This doesn’t look like a slam dunk for the Hurricanes who have been miserable so be careful when betting two struggling squads…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
