The Stars look to end their ugly four game slide in Arizona on Tuesday night as they head to the desert to take on the Coyotes in a battle of division basement dwellers.
The Stars were projected by many to be the team in the West to make a huge jump forward as they brought in some key pieces to add to an already impressive offensive unit but they haven't had the success in the early going that many expected. The Stars brought in both Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky from the Ottawa Senators to link up with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn to form a crazy talented offensive unit and the blue line was projected to take a big step forward as well as Jamie Oleksiak and Alex Goloigoski were pegged to be a top end pair. Kari Lehtonen needs to step up a bit but the Stars in general should still be optimistic about their season and a win on the road against the Coyotes could be a great recipe to end their losing ways.
The Coyotes meanwhile are in a dog fight with the Oilers for the bottom spot in the Pacific division and I think they should get comfortable there as I am not sold on this team whatsoever. The Coyotes do have some great players on the back end in Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Keith Yandle but beyond that I think Arizona is quite thin and I expect they will be closer to a lottery pick than the playoffs this season as there are just too many good teams in the West and in the Pacific division for them to hang around and possibly go on a streak at the end of the year to slip in. I understand the Coyotes are at home here and the Stars have been playing poorly of late but for no reason should Arizona be favoured here as their anemic offense won't have enough in the tank to keep pace with the firepower of the Stars. Lay it down at plus value with Dallas.
