The Dallas Stars look to shake off a tough loss at home against the Kings as they head into Arizona to face off with the Coyotes on Thursday night.
The Stars got off to a rough start in their post all-star break schedule but have a chance to make amends with a road win here against a Coyotes side who has been playing better of late but is still among the league’s worst teams in the standings and on paper. The Stars, like many teams in the league, have had their way with the Coyotes over the years including a nice 6-0 run in their last six meetings and with the sting of Tuesday’s loss fresh in their minds they are bound to come out firing here as a loss to the Coyotes here could potentially be the start of a second half swoon for one of the better teams in the Western Conference. Kari Lehtonen is expected to get the start here as he will face off against Antii Raanta who will aim for just his ninth win of the season in the Arizona crease.
The Coyotes have had a tough go of things this season and while they have mounted a bit of a come back heading into the all star break they are still a ways back in the Western Conference standings and need a miracle to get themselves back into the playoff discussion. Arizona does have a nice crop of talent but they haven’t been able to string together victories at a decent clip and they have been absolutely miserable on home ice against teams who struggle on the road as they are 2-14 in their last 16 games against a team under the .500 mark away from home. Arizona needs this win but the Stars are a much better group and are coming off a loss of their own earlier this week on home ice.
Dallas is 7-2 in their last nine against the Pacific and 5-14 in their last 19 Thursday games while the Coyotes are 8-22 in their last 30 home games and winless in their last six against Dallas. The Stars are chalky favourites here but for good reason as they are much deeper and are having a nice season that gets back on track with a win tonight.
