The Coyotes look to get in the win column for the first time this season as they host the defending Cup champions in Glendale on Saturday.
The LA Kings hoisted their Stanley Cup banner to the rafters of the Staples Center on Wednesday night but they didn’t do much celebrating after that as they were pasted by the San Jose in what was a small sense of retribution for the team that the Kings won four straight against to steal the first round series last year. Los Angeles still has the guns to make another push at their third title in four years but a bit of a Stanley Cup hangover is to be expected and it may take the Kings a month or so before they restore their groove and assert themselves as one of the games top teams. The Kings head to Arizona to take on the Coyotes who dropped their opening contest to the Winnipeg Jets in lackluster fashion and unless we see some consistent top notch goaltending from Mike Smith and a spark on offense it could be a long season for the Desert Dogs.
The Coyotes have been able to push aside any off ice distractions over the past few seasons but now with a stable ownership group and no plans to move the team outside of Glendale the Coyotes can focus on their on ice product in hopes of making a deep playoff run. Unfortunately, the Coyotes just don’t seem to have it on paper this season and aside from some stellar players on the blue line and a pretty decent goaltending tandem I think this team will struggle in the Western Conference and should be in the running to land one of the top draft picks in July. Arizona is going to have a tough time scoring goals this season and while they will find success against some teams by grinding out wins with their defense this Kings side just isn’t the team to do it against and I think LA bounces back in a big way here and puts up an easy win.
