Arizona Coyotes -154 / New York Rangers +123
The New York Rangers and the Arizona Coyotes meet in NHL action from Gila River Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The New York Rangers come into this game looking to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 6-1 thumping at the hands of Colorado in their last outing. Colorado jumped out to a 2-0 advantage after the opening period and a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes of play. The Avs went up 5-0 early in the 3rd before Ryan Strom got the Rangers on the board with their lone goal of the game, one of the short-handed variety. As if it wasn’t enough, Colorado would add a 6th before all was said and done to seal the win over New York. Alexandar Georgiev took the loss, falling to 5-6-0 this season after allowing all 6 goals on 47 shots in the losing effort.
The Arizona Coyotes will look for a bounce back of their own after losing 3 in a row, including a 3-2 shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils last time out. New Jersey took the lead just 1:04 into the game before Conor Garland would tie the game up for the ‘Yotes in the latter stages of the opening period. Christian Fischer would get a 2-1 lead for Arizona but it was short-lived as New Jersey tied it up just over 7 minutes later. The 3rd period settled nothing, and neither did 3-on-3 puck, so we went to a shootout where New Jersey scored both of their attempts while Arizona missed both of theirs, handing the victory to the Devils. Darcy Kuemper took the loss, falling to 5-11-3 this season after allowing both regulation goals on 35 shots, as well as both goals in the shootout.
New York is 4-11 in their last 15 games overall and 15-36 in their last 51 road games while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games against the Western Conference. Arizona is 1-7 in their last 8 home games and 2-12 in their last 14 games against the Eastern Conference while the under is 13-4 in their last 17 Sunday games. New York is 19-7-1 in the last 27 meetings between these two teams and 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams in Arizona.
Neither of these teams are ones that you should back in their current form, as the Rangers have been brutal on the road and Arizona has been brutal for the better part of the season. This game is probably one that’s best left alone on Sunday, but if forced to make a pick, the Rangers have had the bulk of the success in this matchup, and in Arizona no less, so I’ll take a shot with the Rangers and the plus money.
