The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Arizona Coyotes meet in NHL action from the Gila River Arena on Friday night.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 5-2 defeat at the hands of San Jose in their last outing. Kris Letang opened the scoring for the Pens just after the midway point of the opening period, but the lead lasted all of 1:43 before San Jose tied the game and followed that up by taking the lead just 2:05 after that for a 2-1 advantage after the opening period. The Sharks owned a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play and pushed it to 4-1 early in the 3rd. Derick Brassard pulled one back for San Jose late in the 3rd, but it was too little too late as the Sharks added an empty-netter to secure the win and send Pittsburgh back empty handed. Matt Murray took the loss, falling to 13-6-1 this season after allowing 4 goals on 28 shots in the losing effort.

The Arizona Coyotes will look to build some steam after picking up a 6-3 win over the very same San Jose Sharks in their last time out. Lawson Crouse and Richard Panik scored 2:08 apart to help the ‘Yotes jump out to a 2-0 lead before San Jose cut the deficit in half by the end of the 1st period. Christian Fischer and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored 2:45 apart early in the 2nd to jump out to a 4-1 lead that was again cut down by the Sharks just after the midway point of the 2nd and cut the 4-3 late in the 3rd period before the Coyotes scored a pair of empty net goals from Alex Galchenyuk and Josh Archibald to secure the win. Darcy Kuemper got the win to improve to 9-11-3 this season after stopping 26 of 29 shots faced in the winning effort.

Pittsburgh is 10-3 in their last 13 games overall and 6-2 in their last 8 road games while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games against the Pacific division. Arizona is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 4-11 in their last 15 home games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games against the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

The plus money at home with Arizona could be worth a look as the Coyotes have been playing better and managed to throttle the same San Jose team that beat up on Pittsburgh in their last outing. However, Pittsburgh is simply the better team here and have had Arizona’s number in recent meetings between the two teams. The Penguins also have a better record on the road than the Coyotes do at home, so given all of this information, I have to lay the juice with Pittsburgh in this spot.

Pick:
Pittsburgh Penguins -159
