The Sharks look to end a two game slide on Tuesday night as they head into the desert to take on the Arizona Coyotes at Gila River Arena.
The Sharks had ample opportunity to take a stranglehold on second place in the Pacific division over the weekend as the Vancouver Canucks dropped back to back games but they were unable to do so as they suffered an identical fate and dropped both of their contests as well. San Jose had been one of the league's hottest teams but they have now dropped six of their last 10 games and their dreams of a division title is slowly fading away as the Ducks continue to roll. However, San Jose can still get into a position where they will have home ice advantage in the first round and perhaps exact some revenge on the Kings after last year's debacle and with the way things are shaping up right now that's exactly what we could see as both teams are making a push towards the postseason. Antii Niemi is expected to get the start here as he will go up against Mike Smith.
The Coyotes season continues to fizzle out as the one time perennial playoff contenders have fall on hard times and will likely be adding to their prospect pool this off season instead of competing for the Stanley Cup. Arizona does have some nice pieces and some great talent at the junior level but it makes for tough times this year coming in to a losing environment and they have done plenty of that this season as they sit in second to last place in the Pacific and fourth last in the league overall. The Coyotes have been better at home than on the road this season but that is usually true of most teams and even so they are under .500 in Glendale as well and against a San Jose team coming off back to back losses this might be a tough spot for Arizona to get a win. The odds are with the Sharks but it isn't too bad considering they're on the road and getting them here at this price is a steal especially in regulation or on the puck line.
