The San Jose Sharks and Arizona Coyotes meet Wednesday in NHL action at the Gila River Arena.
The San Jose Sharks look to stay hot while building on their seven-game winning streak. The San Jose Sharks are averaging 3.6 goals per game and are scoring on 24.6 percent of their power play opportunities. Joe Pavelski leads San Jose with 26 goals, Brent Burns has 43 assists and Logan Couture has 110 shots on goal. Defensively, the San Jose Sharks are allowing 2.9 goals per game and are killing 84.3 percent of their opponents power plays. Aaron Dell has given up 42 goals on 384 shots faced and Martin Jones has allowed 91 goals on 935 shots. The San Jose Sharks have allowed two or less goals in each of their last six games.
The Arizona Coyotes look for a spark of consistency after splitting their last 10 games. The Arizona Coyotes are averaging 2.5 goals per game and are scoring on 18.2 percent of their power play opportunities. Brad Richardson leads Arizona with 11 goals, Clayton Keller has 22 assists and Oliver Ekman-Larsson has 98 shots on goal. Defensively, the Arizona Coyotes are allowing 2.9 goals per game and are killing 88.7 percent of their opponents power plays. Darcy Kuemper has given up 58 goals on 677 shots faced and Antti Raanta has allowed 33 goals on 351 shots. The Arizona Coyotes have allowed three or less goals in five of their last six games.
The Sharks are 5-2 in their last 7 Wednesday games, 6-1 in their last 7 road games and 6-0 in their last 6 overall. The Coyotes are 3-11 in their last 14 home games, 17-37 in their last 54 games playing on 2 days rest and 5-2 in their last 7 Wednesday games. The Sharks are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Arizona and 5-2 in the last 7 meetings. The under is 3-1-1 in Sharks last 5 overall. The under is 5-2 in Coyotes last 7 home games.
We've hit a few times on the Arizona Coyotes as underdogs, as I kept saying this team isn't as bad as their record indicates. This feels like another good spot with the Coyotes at home against a team on the end of a back to back. The problem is the San Jose Sharks are too hot to bet against, as they've won seven straight and are on a tear defensively. The Sharks have also won five of the last seven meetings against the Coyotes and the road team has won six of the last seven. I can't bet against the Sharks in their current form, so it's either San Jose or pass.
