The Coyotes look to salvage the split in the home and home series with San Jose after the Sharks took the first leg last night in California.
The Sharks look for their third straight win and to move closer to a playoff spot with a win on the road against the Coyotes a night after winning by a 3-1 final on home ice against them. San Jose has been a bit of a disappointment this season and if they fail to make the postseason things could get blown up during the off season and while that may be the best for everyone involved they still have a great shot at playoff hockey this season. San Jose sits three points back of the Kings for the second wild card spot in the West and have played one more game than LA so things will have to take shape for them in a hurry if they're to get in but I believe they will do everything in their power to get there and that means winning out the stretch of their regular season.
The Coyotes have been an absolute nightmare this season and sit in last place in the Western Conference with just 54 points but somehow that is still two points better than the Sabres and currently the Sabres are locked into the top spot in the NHL draft lottery. Arizona doesn't have a ton of options offensively and while they traded away Keith Yandle they still have some solid pieces on the blue line in the form of Dan Girardi and Oliver Ekmann Larsson who can be building blocks moving forward. For the time being though the Coyotes are just in a tough spot and while they were close last night I don't see tonight being any different.
