The Washington Capitals look to shake off a loss in Vegas as they head into Arizona to do battle with the Coyotes on Thursday night.
The Caps looked as though they were going to win yet another game on the road in Sin City but a third period collapse led to Vegas earning some dose of revenge after last year’s Cup final and will force the Caps back to the drawing board for their show down against the Coyotes on Thursday. Washington conceded 4 goals in the 3rd period which is very uncharacteristic of them and will certainly be a point of focus for them in this one but with the Coyotes playing some of their best hockey of the season at the moment it won’t be an easy task to come out and earn a win. The Capitals are 4-1 in their last 5 road games and are 7-2 in their last nine overall but they have struggled in the desert and are running into Adin Hill who has taken the league by storm in the Arizona crease over the last couple of weeks.
The Coyotes have had their way with Washington when the teams meet up in Arizona as they are 6-1 in their last 7 tries but will get a frustrated group who will be out to make amends for their sluggish effort on Tuesday. Arizona has ridden the play of their defense and goaltending early on this season and look like a group that went on an unexpected run in the Western Conference playoffs of a few seasons ago. However, the Coyotes know they need to get some more scoring help and if they can make a move or two throughout the season they should very well be in contention for a playoff spot. Arizona has won 4 in a row but are just 1-4 in their last 5 home games and will need a strong effort to take out the defending champs in this one.
The Capitals are winless in their last 4 games on a Thursday and have played to the Over in 4 of their last 5 while the Coyotes are 7-3 in their last 10 games following a win and have played to the Under in 7 of their last 8 meetings with the Caps. Both of these teams will be keyed in defensively here and after letting Tuesday’s game get away from them expect a low scoring contest here that stays under the number.
